identity poster

This is my identity poster. The brief was to create a poster that has a part of you in it for example a hand, face or even a shoe. It also had to have some typography in it.

My idea was to take a picture of my hand and have my name and date of birth stitched through my fingers. I had to get a friend to take a picture of my hand because it turns out it’s quite hard to do it by yourself. Then once I had the image I opened it in Photoshop and changed the hue and saturation right down to black and white, then I made the image a cel shade image. The next thing I did was to duplicate the image and make them smaller and different sizes and place them next to my fingers. I also got rid of the smaller images backgrounds I did this with a layer mask and the paint brush. I chose a small italic font that looked like stiches.

tee shirt design

This is one of my tee shirt designs for Astor Park that I made using Photoshop. I started out with a standard light blue tee shirt but I turned the hue and saturation down to make it more of a light purple colour. The second thing I did was to take parts of the graffiti images I took from Astor Park. I took the parts I want and made a layer mask and selected the paint brush and got rid of the areas I didn’t want. To get the speech bubble I just went on Google images got the image turned down the image opacity and layer masked the edges.

3D max

This was my first time using 3D max. The first thing I was taught was how to use the move, rotate and create shapes. These tools are located on the top tool bar. The other thing I was taught was how to move the plane e.g. canvas floor and the views of the shape. These are located in the bottom right corner. The first thing I did when I opened the 3D max was to make a box any size I want and then experiment with the tools. One of the tools is a teapot because it has the majority of the curves and straights which are on most shapes.

The second thing I did was to take any word I wanted in 3D max and change the colour, font and change it, I did this just by rotating the word. Once I chose my word we then had to add it to a Photoshop image and try and blend it in.

For this I started out with just a simple box and added segment 4x4 and by clicking and dragging on a segment I created a new segment. Once I made a new segment I gave some of them points at the end, I did this by clicking on two of the four points at the end of the segment and rotating them. To make the new image have a smooth texture I just added polygons only 2 because the more polygons you add the more time it takes to render the shape, if I was to add 8 polygons to the shape the texture would be softer and more rounded but the amount of time to render the image would be ridiculous and would probably crash my computer.   

One of the other things I learnt about 3D max was how to texture. What I did was put my name in 3D max, then to go on google images and find an image with some sort of texture like rust or wood. I chose to do tigers fur, steel and the world.

Today i learnt how to set up a marantz audio system and format it. The first thing I did was plug the marantz in to the mains for power.When I turned it on the LED screen it came up with 000, this shows that there are no recordings on the marantz. But its still a good idea to format the marantz when you get it. You do this by pressing    edit and shift at the same time and it comes up with different  menus, you can scroll across the menus by pressing  fast-forward until you get to the one you want.There are two mic ports at the bottom of the marantz that you plug any mic you want in e.g. microphone, gunmic ect. Microphones are mainly used for interviews and quick set-ups. The gunmics are used for sounds in the distance all you need to do is point at the sound and record.The headphone jack is on the side so you can play back what you recorded.The marantz can also hold up to 35 hours of recordings at different qualities.

keith haring

Keith Haring May 4^th 1958-Febuary 16^th  1990 aged 31.

Keith Haring was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, and was raised in nearby Kutztown, Pennsylvania. He had developed his drawing skills at a very young age by learning how to draw cartoons from his dad and from Disney movies. 

Keith’s work is all based around cartoon graffiti. In 1980, Haring found a highly effective medium that allowed him to communicate with the wider audience he desired, he noticed the unused advertising panels covered with matte black paper in a subway. He created drawings in white chalk on blank paper panels throughout the subway. Between 1980 and 1985, Haring produced hundreds of these public drawings in rapid rhythmic lines, sometimes creating as many as forty subway drawings in one day.

He achieved his first public attention with the chalk drawing of The Radiant Baby and this became his symbol.

In 1985 Haring started to paint canvas. Simultaneously, the Museum of Modern Art in Bordeaux opened an exhibition of his works, and took part in the Paris Biennial.

David Carson

David Carson is a graphic designer for magazines and is most famous for his own magazine Ray Gun wunique through his own use of typeography. Ray Gun was an alterintive rock magazine that was massive in the 90's. From 1982 -1987 David was a teacher in Torry Pines High School in San Diego.  add more later.

capture graffiti culture

Today I drew different ways of the word 'capture' using graffiti with pencil and paper with Roy Christie. I tried a couple of different styles for the word capture, but i only liked one or two of them. After that I tried writing my name in pen and pencil ,I thought it it looked quite sketchy but ok at the same time. After all the graffiti Roy Christie showed the class a short video of stop/start animation of graffiti that took around two months to from start to finish.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuGaqLT-gO4

The three different methods i have chosen  to capture the grafiti art at astor playing fields are photography, writing and memory.
